Nigerian forward Kelechi Iheanacho has defended his move to Turkish second division side Bursaspor after walking away from an offer tabled by Scottish Champions Celtic to keep him at the club for at least another season.
Kelechi Iheanacho who won a League double with Celtic last season opted out of contract talks with the Scottish giants and completed a shock move to the Turkish second division.
Speaking on his move, the 29 year-old forward described Bursaspor as a “big team” and he was convinced by their ambitious project.
‘I am very happy to come to Bursaspor. I thank the President, Mr. Furkan, and their team for making it possible to come to Bursaspor with the help of my agent as well. I am very happy and I am really excited to start here in Bursaspor.
The Big Project
Bursaspor will play in the second tier of Turkish football in the new season after their Super Lig 3 victory last season.

‘To be fair, Bursaspor is a big team in Turkey, I heard they’ve won the Turkish Super Lig before.
‘And when I heard about the project and how they want to go all the way to the Super Lig and to play in Europe as well, I knew it was a big project; it is very good for me to be involved and help the team.’
‘So I asked my agent to make sure he did everything possible to make sure I come to Bursaspor. It is a big project and I hope I am going to be part of it and that I can help the team.’

New Season New Objective
Bursaspor get their league campaign underway with an away game at Bodrum on August 9, and Iheanacho will hope to get his first action with the team.
Last season, the Forward bagged 9 goals in 24 appearances for Celtic in all competitions, and has revealed that his target this season will be to gain promotion to the Super Lig.
‘My target is to make sure we are promoted to the Super Lig.’
