Former Nigerian coach, Fatai Amoo has criticized the state of football administration in the country, blaming the Nigeria Football Federation for the decline in player development and infrastructure.
Speaking in an interview with Brila.net, Amoo said Nigeria’s football had “retrogressed” and called for urgent reforms from those in charge of the game.
“I think our football is retrogressing in terms of players and results,” Amoo said.

“For me, I have tried my best. You do your best and leave the rest. Nobody can be champion forever.”
The former youth team coach suggested that poor leadership and failure to address longstanding issues were responsible for the country’s struggles.
“From my understanding, the reason why we aren’t doing well is that we have left so many things undone, and we aren’t trying to do it right — especially those that are taking charge of football in Nigeria today,” he said.
“And of course, it’s the Nigeria Football Federation, isn’t it?”

Amoo also highlighted the poor state of football infrastructure in the country, particularly the condition of playing surfaces used for national team matches.
“I think if we can go back and look at what and what have we not done well, and try to correct them, I think we will bounce back,” he added.
“For example, we want to talk about our football pitches, especially at the national level.
“You’re talking about hosting, most of the time they say Nigeria doesn’t have the pitches. It’s part of our problems. It shouldn’t be that.”
Amoo successfully guided Nigeria to qualification for the 2021 U-17 Africa Cup of Nations after leading his side to the final of the WAFU Zone B U-17 Tournament in Togo.
