The Confederation of African Football (CAF) conducted the draw for the 2025 U20 Africa Cup of Nations, today, placing Nigeria in what is being referred to by many as the “Group of Death.”

Nigeria has been drawn in Group B alongside Egypt, South Africa, and Morocco, setting the stage for an intense battle in Cote d’Ivoire from April 26 to May 18, 2025.

The most successful Nation in the competition, Nigeria’s Flying Eagles have won the title seven times, but will face a stern test right from the group stages.

Egypt, a three-time champion, brings a formidable challenge with their experience.

South Africa, despite not having won the title, has previously reached the final and remains a competitive force.

Meanwhile, Morocco, winners of the 1997 edition, complete the quartet, promising high-quality football and fierce competition.

The draw was conducted at CAF headquarters in Cairo.

Coach Aliyu Zubairu’s team, who have already begun their preparations, will look to leverage on their most recent success at the WAFU B Championship to navigate through this challenging group.

Notably, this grouping is not just about historical accolades; it’s also about current form and the promise of young talents from each nation.

The Flying Eagles will have an early opportunity to gauge their strength when they face Egypt in friendly matches later this month, providing a prelude to their actual tournament encounters.

Also, the U20 AFCON serves as a qualification route for the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile, where the top four teams in Cote d’ivoire will secure their spots.

Given the pedigree and stakes involved, every match in Group B will be pivotal not just for advancing to the knockout stages but for a chance at the global stage.
