Luis Díaz looks back on the season so far.
When Arne Slot was picked to replace beloved Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp this season, no one could have guessed that this would be his first year with the club. The manager did virtually no work in the summer or winter transfer windows. Instead he utilized the considerable talent of the players already at the club to dominate, both domestically and in Europe.
It’s hard to think of anything negative to say about the man. He took on a huge challenge — possibly one of the biggest in modern football history — and exceeded all expectations. Even if the Reds blow the last third of their season, if would be hard to call his inaugural season anything less than a success.
Luis Díaz is one of the many players who has benefited from Slot’s management accrumen. When asked about the new boss, Díaz was full of praise.
“Our coach has settled in really well at the club,” Díaz said. “He’s known just exactly how to manage the group and every single player that he has in the squad because it cannot be easy for any coach when he has two or three excellent alternatives for each position on the field to make decisions on who to play and who to leave out.
“It’s not an easy task but he’s been up to it and he’s also given confidence to every single player in his squad.”
It’s not just man management where Slot has shone. Díaz also spoke about the technical aspect of Slot’s skills.
“He’s put into practice some very important things for us tactically. He is very good in that respect and he also will tell you and put you right when he feels the need to. So, that’s pretty much how it is. He’s managing the group really well,” Díaz said.
With the league, the League Cup, and the Champions League all still on the table, Slot has a very real chance to cement himself into the annals of Liverpool history by leading his side to a treble on his first try.
