The work in the Academy continues apace.
We are one more sleep away from the next Liverpool match in the Premier League, but the work, as they say, never ends. Whether it be training on the pitch, strategizing off of it, or keeping an eye on the overall health of the organization, the work for clubs the size of Liverpool feels like an all-consuming endeavor.
Take the work at the Academy: the point of these parts of the club set-up is to be able to discover the future elite players while, hopefully, also providing those that won’t be able to make the grade an opportunity to grow as people. It is the kind of ever-churning work that often goes unsung, but when you land that one-in-a-million player – your Steven Gerrards or your Trent Alexander-Arnolds – it all comes into focus.
Liverpool’s Academy has found a way to bring through quite a few players over the years: TAA and Curtis Jones in particular are bright lights, with the likes of Conor Coady, Neco Williams, and Harry Wilson all managing to put together solid careers in the top flight away from Liverpool. Which is to say that there is something going right at Kirkby.
In that vein, the club announced yesterday that U18s midfielder Alvin Ayman has just signed his first professional contract with the club. Ayman joined the Academy over the summer from Wolverhampton Wanderers and has apparently impressed enough to warrant this next step in his career trajectory.
It’s impossible to project out just where Ayman’s – or, indeed, any member of the Academy’s – career might end up. But we’ll at least know to keep tabs on the youngster as he tries to make his mark under the Liverpool banner.
