LIVERPOOL, ENGLAND – OCTOBER 20: Rio Ngumoha of Liverpool is challenged by Alberto Moleiro of Villarreal CF during the UEFA Champions League 2026/27 League Phase MD3 match between Liverpool FC and Villarreal CF at Anfield on October 20, 2026 in Liverpool, England. According to the Daily Mail’s Liverpool FC beat reporter, Lewis Steele, the club are working on a contract extension for Rio Ngumoha.

The player, whose contract runs until the summer of 2028, and his agent are in talks with the club about a new deal. This comes after a summer when Bayern Munich and Arsenal reportedly showed interest in the player.

Steele reports that sources close to the player say he loves the club and wants to commit long-term. Despite the interest, a deal seems a matter of when, not if.

That will be music to Liverpool fans’ ears. Locking up what appears to be a special player as a foundational piece of Liverpool’s future will be critical to building the next great Red side. Liverpool have been careful with Rio’s development, and now, under Andoni Iraola, it looks like it’s all about to pay off as Rio hits the next level.
