Spokesperson of the Football Federation of Iran, Amirmahdi Alavai, has confirmed that Nigeria will take on Iran in a friendly match on March 27.

The game is part of preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign, as Iran intensify plans for the global tournament.

Iran secured qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup after finishing strongly in the Asian qualifiers, sealing their place as one of Asia’s representatives at the tournament.

Iran are drawn in Group G alongside Belgium, New Zealand, and Egypt.

Facing Nigeria will give the Iran national team the chance to test their squad against a strong and well-coached team like Nigeria.

The last time both sides met was at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, where the encounter ended goalless.

However, the Super Eagles participation in the friendly will depend on FIFA’s impending ruling regarding Nigeria’s eligibility protest against the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The protest is currently under review by FIFA.
